Business plan with ChatGPT: the text is ready, the numbers aren't
ChatGPT writes a whole plan in a minute, and it looks great. The trouble shows up when someone adds up the columns. See where it usually fails and what changes when the plan is built with a method.

A complete plan in under a minute
Ask for a business plan with ChatGPT and in under a minute you get an executive summary, market analysis, SWOT matrix and financial projections. The writing is good and it looks like a professional document.
The trouble comes later. ChatGPT answers what was asked, in the format asked, and nobody checks whether what chapter 3 calls investment shows up again as an expense in chapter 7. Anyone who takes that document to a bank or an investor, or uses it to commit their own savings, is betting on math nobody did.
There is a quieter drift too. With every request to “improve it” or “make it more professional”, the plan grows. Someone who wanted to open a neighbourhood barbecue stand ends up with a plan for a chain of upscale steakhouses, with investment, staff and customers that were never part of the idea.
Four failures that show up when someone checks
The text survives a first read. The failures are in the structure, and they only appear when someone redoes the math.
- 1
Numbers that don't talk to each other
Equipment and renovation appear as investment in one chapter and as a month-one expense in another. Each number looks reasonable alone, but results, cash flow and payback stop making sense together.
- 2
A plan that is no longer yours
With every tweak you ask for, the text gets more ambitious. The neighbourhood barbecue stand becomes a steakhouse chain, the investment multiplies, and the plan ends up describing a business you never meant to open.
- 3
Market described, competition ignored
The document mentions neighbourhoods, audiences and trends with no footfall data, no regional average ticket and no view of who competes for the same customer. An edge like “quality, service and fair prices” fits any business.
- 4
Decisions left for later
Phrases like “if needed” and “could be considered” put choices off. Banks and partners want to know what you will do, with what money and in which month.
When investment turns into expense
Chapter 3 — Initial investment
US$ 15,000
“The estimated initial investment is US$ 15,000, for equipment and renovation.”
Chapter 7 — Month 1 expenses
US$ 31,400
In the month-one projection, the same AI adds the same US$ 15,000 of equipment and renovation to operating expenses.
Investment counted twice
US$ 15,000
Equipment and renovation are investment: they come in once, before the doors open, and reach the income statement gradually, through depreciation. Booked as a month-one expense, they appear twice in the plan, create a loss that doesn't exist and distort break-even and payback. Before moving on, separate what is investment from what is an operating expense.

The rent changes, the cash flow follows
Income statement, cash flow and investment in one model
In Vibz, projections come from the assumptions you set: price, volume, costs and investment. Everything stays linked. If the rent goes up, results, cash flow and payback change with it, with no spreadsheet to patch. That link is what a text generated in one go is missing.

The plan grows at the scale you chose
Every stage starts from your decisions
The Vibz journey follows the 5 stages of the Viabilize Method and starts from what you want to build. If the idea is a neighbourhood barbecue stand, the plan is about a neighbourhood barbecue stand: location, average ticket, suppliers and working capital. Growing becomes a decision you make at a given stage, not a side effect of the text.

Questions about writing a business plan with ChatGPT
Can you write a business plan with ChatGPT?
You can get started. ChatGPT helps organise ideas, suggest a chapter structure and get the writing moving. What it doesn't do is check whether the numbers agree with each other, or whether the plan still describes the business you want to open. That part takes method.
Will a bank accept a business plan written by ChatGPT?
Banks assess the content, not the tool. What matters is whether investment, revenue and cash flow are consistent, and the repayment capacity those numbers imply. A generated text that skipped that check usually stumbles on the analyst's first question.
What is the biggest risk of using ChatGPT for financial projections?
Mixing investment with expenses. Equipment and renovation, which should come in once as investment, show up as monthly expenses, and working capital disappears or gets counted twice. In Vibz, investment, expenses and working capital live in separate places, and the projections recalculate together.
Can I use ChatGPT together with Vibz?
Yes. Plenty of people use ChatGPT to brainstorm names, test arguments or polish their writing. The planning itself, with assumptions, numbers and targets, happens in Vibz, guided by the Viabilize Method.
How is Val different from ChatGPT?
ChatGPT answers what you ask. Val works inside your plan: she knows the stages you have completed, compares the assumptions with the numbers and flags what doesn't hold up before you move on.
ChatGPT helps you think. Decisions need a method.
To be fair
ChatGPT is great for getting the idea out of your head and onto the page.
Between a text that looks finished and a plan you can actually carry out, there is math, there are choices, and there should be someone asking whether it all makes sense.
In Vibz, AI works alongside 20 years of consulting: every number, process and target is checked before it turns into real investment.
